Wine Tastings

Bottles

Touring the vineyards is a wonderful experience. We should know - we do a lot of it! But it can't compete with a tasting if you want to experience the broadest possible range of Rhône wines: the 2½ hours between glasses of Gigondas and Côte-Rôtie when you're on the road can become two minutes in the comfort of your holiday home. So if the effort of being driven from château to domaine all sounds too much, let the Rhône come to you.

We offer private wine tastings wherever you’re staying in the Rhône valley – family home, gîte, villa, bed and breakfast, hotel suite, we've visited them all. We turn up with everything you need: the wine, the glasses, pens, tasting sheets, maps, you name it. We even bring along a selection of local artisanal bread, cheeses and charcuterie as part of the price. And when it's all done we clear up after ourselves.

Tastings last around two hours and are tailored to your knowledge level, catering for enthusiastic wine drinkers, experienced winemakers and everything in between. Whatever your level, the tastings are a fun, relaxed way to learn more about the region's wines.

A typical tasting might start with a sparkling wine, finish with a dessert wine and in between cover a range of reds and whites from both the northern and southern Rhône. But all that can be adapted to suit your tastes. So if you only like reds, that’s not a problem. And if whites are your thing, don’t let it stop you.

Prices start at 120€ for groups of 2 to 10 people - so as little as 12€ per head - with an extra 12€ per head thereafter. And as if the prices aren’t reasonable enough, all the bottles opened during the tasting are yours to keep and enjoy at your leisure over the rest of your stay.

The possibilities are almost endless, but here are some suggestions to help guide you:

A Tour of the Rhône - the whole region from north to south, red and white. Côtes-du-Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage and Châteauneuf-du-Pape all make an appearance.

Big Reds - Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras form the backbone of this tasting, but big, bold Rasteau and the north get a look in too.

Northern Classics - The northern Rhône is the home of the syrah and viognier grapes, not to mention marsanne and roussanne, giving wines of class and elegance. This tasting covers the whole of the northern sector with wines from Crozes-Hermitage, St. Joseph etc.

Village People – A selection of the best Côtes-du-Rhône Villages wines. Red, white and rosé all together or alone, as you prefer.

Hang the Expense – A very special tasting of the best that the Rhône has to offer – Hermitage (red and white), Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape included. Sadly, not a tasting that can be put together for 120€, but let us know what you'd like to taste and we will very happily give you a quote.

And If you're staying in the Nyons/Vaison-la-Romaine area shorter tastings are available. They may be cheaper but they're just as much fun, just as informative, only with a little less wine.
